Israeli Archaeological Expedition to Amuda: September 17-27, 2021

Good new – we’re digging again!

It looks like Pandemic restrictions for travelers to Israel will come to an end August 1, 2021.

With that said, and assuming there are no further travel restrictions, Knight’s Antiquity Historical Society (https://www.knightshistorical.com/) will be partnering with Dr. Oren Gutfeld (https://israeldigs.com/) and the Beit Lehi Foundation (https://beitlehi.org/) to continue excavations at the newly discovered temple site at Amuda, Israel from September 17-27, 2021.

If you are interested please register HERE or by using the link below by August 1, 2021.

Our team’s role at the dig site is physically digging, sifting and moving dirt from about 7:00 am until 3:00 pm daily with a break for lunch. In other words, we’re the “cheap labor.”

September weather in Israel is very similar to Southern California weather. Dry air and temperatures ranging between 74 and 84 degrees fahrenheit during the day, and 65 at night can be expected.

We will be camping at the dig site in tents, out and away from civilization so must plan accordingly. Group tents will be provided, but you should bring your own sleeping bag and camping supplies, plus a personal tent if you prefer. We will have all our meals catered, but have minimal hygienic conveniences (only a water buffalo for clean water, porta potties with sanitary supplies for our constitutional needs). An on-site generator will supply a limited amount of electrical power for charging phones, cameras, and the like as it is primarily used for food refrigeration purposes. Plan on nightly campfires so bring a musical instrument, and perhaps some libation and maybe a cigar to make the most of our starry gatherings.

Other important info:

For transportation to and from Israel, you will need to secure your own round trip plane ticket to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel (near Tel Aviv). After arriving in-country, at the airport, you can take a train, taxi, Uber, or secure a rental car from the airport. Keep in mind that during the Sabbath (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset) no government transportation will be available (yeah, pretty incredible). If you are interested in a rental car, keep in mind that we will be setting up sharing arrangements once we get a good head-count.

For lodging, we typically secure either a hotel room or an Airbnb for use during our first night there and again to shower up before departure. At the dig site, there will be a large tent and several smaller tents available if you prefer, otherwise you can bring your own. To address what camping equipment to bring, we will be dispatching a comprehensive packing list to our participants in early August.

For communication, we will be using email until about a week out and then will be using the smart phone application “WhatsApp.” If you are attending, your name will be added to a group list such that everyone will be able to communicate with one another.
